Olympic Flame visits Beaumaris

Starting at 5:04pm on the 28th of May, Keith Rothwell will enjoy a very rare privilege as he takes charge of the Olympic flame, and carries it through his leg of its journey through Caernarfon. Beginning at Victoria Park and ending in Campbell road, Keith will become one of only eight thousand people selected to carry the torch for the London 2012 Olympics.

The following day, the flame resumes it’s journey, starting with a visit to Beaumaris Castle. Just after 7am, it will be carried through Beaumaris by Lorna Price, a 15 year old girl from Amlwch, before she heads onto Beaumaris Pier and passes the flame onto the RNLI lifeboat.

The lifeboat crew will then ferry it along the straits to Menai Bridge, marking the only portion of the journey where the flame will travel on the water.

The route the flame travels has been designed to bring the flame within 10 miles of 95% of the population of the UK, ensuring as many people as possible will have a chance to view this once in a lifetime event.
